The latest version of the iPhone, the iPhone 4, went on sale Thursday morning. Verizon Wireless stores across the country, including those in the northland, opened their doors early to give customers a head start.

Thousands of new members are joining the iPhone club. Cell-phone users unsatisfied with the Apple device because of AT&T’s spotty coverage can now get it through the nation’s largest wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless. The company has made the phone available to the general public Thursday.
