Question by WWWyzzerdd: Gaming Versus: Desktop Vs. Laptop gaming?
Let’s hear some pros and cons to whether Laptop gaming can be matched with todays power housed Desktops.
Seeing more and more Laptops being called “desktop” replacements you can see why sooner or longer will no longer matter, only being portable and playing BIOSHOCK on a friggin’ bus..sweet.
I like those answers makes me wonder, “Why do people have Laptops for gaming?” Sure portable but costly and for what, less than a year for the newer things. I think if you know what your wanting as some said it’s fine say back in the day ‘The Sims Online’ not intense but being portable and several “Sims” had more than one LT to chat on so I got to know an actual family. Neat stuff but I’ll stick with Desks for now.
Crazy thing, I saw a Laptop at a Computer show playing Gears of War -DX10 full prefs, beautiful and ran like glass, smoove baybay.
Cost?…priceless, no really it was like 4k’s, like I’d slam down that much or really anyone who isn’t a tycoon for an LT that will in less than a year be a paper weight, oh and for the record it was hellah heavy too.
Thanks guys for the feedback, expert-smarties.

Desktop gaming in my opinion is usually better than laptop gaming. Desktops are capable of bigger graphics cards and processors than there portable counterparts. Larger keyboard and mouse helps playing games be easier than with touchpad and small keyboard. As far as playing BIOSHOCK on a bus, heh heh, well my MacBook has great battery life, but goes dead within 2 hours browsing the web. You’d probably only get about 25-30 minutes of game time on a bus… so much for “portable” gaming, eh?

the problem with laptops is when you need to upgrade internal parts like video card or sound card, its really hard to upgrade those parts of the laptop if you compare it to a desktop where you can simply open up the system and install the replacement parts.
A real good gaming desk top can be built for 600.00-700.00$ US. with a 22′ monitor, SLI, ETC.
A decent laptop gaming rig is going to cost 2500.00$ + at the present time.
I believe in the future you will see good gaming laptop rigs offered and when they become competitive then the prices will start to drop.
Right now I think Alienware has about the best gaming laptop offered.
I actually had a questions about this myself. (I wasn’t so nice about it). Graphics for Laptops are built onto the motherboard. You buy the laptop with the graphics built in to it. This is fine if you know what you are paying for, and why you want those graphics in the first place! But Graphics take up more power, then up adding to the cost of the laptop (because you are paying for top of the line). Most people, and most laptop companies don’t add all this unless you ask for it. The laptop companies want to sell you the cheapest laptop for a good price. So for the Average user that buys a laptop, the THINK because it is “New” it should be able to Run things fine! Unless you pay for the extra power of the graphics, you aren’t going to be able to play those extra games. Even more, in the future if your newer games require better hardware the laptop is stuck in the past.
A desktop is more suited for gaming. You have your mouse, keyboard all laid out for gaming (I don’t know how people play games on a laptop with out a mouse?) Plus if something is behind the times, you only need to upgrade that ONE part of the computer. It just doesn’t make sense to me to buy some $ 2000 gaming laptop to play games for maybe a year, and then its behind. You buy a $ 2000 desktop computer, then just upgrade it over the years.
