Question by I need answers: Are gaming computers any better than PS3?
Why do people spend $ 3000 on a “gaming computer”?
I played on-line games on both. My friend has a gaming computer, and I have PS3.
I see not much difference between the two.
In fact since I have fiber-optic cable internet my setup seems faster than his. ( He has a standard cable internet)
I spent $ 299 and he spent over $ 3000.

PC will always be better.
1,
Because in a few years your ps3 is going to run out of games to play since their most likely going to work on the playstation 4 while his “gaming computer” will have many games continuously coming out and he will not need to upgrade his computer for a long time, possibly 10 years if it cost $ 3000.
2, The online experience > ps3 online experience FACT. On most online ps3 games you will most likely get below 18 players and it will not run on dedicated servers while online games for the pc runs on dedicated servers (which is way better than a peer network) and can have up to 32 people on just one server.
3, On PC nearly all games come out for it. For example why have two consoles for two different game brands? Instance if you just wanted to play halo and you have a ps3 it would be pretty much a waste cashing out money for a 360 just to play one game. On pc there are loads of games compared to the ps3 and xbox 360 combined.
4, His pc might not be JUST for gaming. He could use it as a media center too for movies and music, internet surfing, video editing, movie editing, photo editing. These are the things your Playstation 3 can not do which is why a gaming computer costs more.
5, Much more games on pc. For instance there are mods for current games for valve such as garrys mod for example. For ps3 all you might want to buy is 4 or 5 games like gta IV or fallout 3 while pc has all those games and hundreds more…
6, A gaming computer lasts much more longer than a present console, FACT.
Question: Did he buy a pre-built computer or did he actually built one himself? If he bought one, he’s not really a pc gamer, just an idiot.
On average, it would cost a little under 900 dollars to build a high-end gaming machine. You can build a decent mid-range system for less than 700.
However, with ps3, and computers, you have to also factor in game costs. Currently, I have 360, ps3, and wii, and in total, I spent probably well over several thousands on games alone. So it’s not really “cheaper” by any means.
Crysis is the ONLY game on the PC that looks better than anything on the PS3, and you need an incredibly powerful computer to run it at its highest settings.
In terms of graphics, PC’s are capable of running games better than consoles, but the difference is usually very small. Most console games are locked at around 30 or 40 frames per second, but a powerful PC can run any game at higher than 60 frames per second. Also, all HD console games have a resolution between 720 vertical pixels and 1080, but a PC can go higher than that. (My monitor is 1920×1200.) But since you have to sit right in front of a computer monitor as opposed to sitting across the room looking at a TV, you can’t really tell the difference.
I’d say that, given the PC’s lack of exclusive games with high visual quality, owning a gaming PC isn’t really worth it. They’re much more expensive than a console and they have to be upgraded every few years.
You’re not looking at the bigger picture. That $ 3000 PC which you claim, and I doubt, is just like your PS3 is going to do two things your PS3 realistically won’t and that’s get better and cheaper much faster. A current computer will always be better than a current console because the ability to upgrade a PC allows it to be fluid in its technology.
I have a computer which has roughly $ 1000 put in to it, not even recently, and my PS3 doesn’t even compare. My guess is that he probably got some sort of boxed “gaming” computer which is loaded with tons of pointless crap sold expensive because it’s shiny. I honestly can’t even think of anybody that makes a worthy computer for $ 3000. Most respectable pre-made gaming computers are from off-brands and cap out in the $ 1500 and that’s for something truly ridiculous. If he’s invested $ 3000 in a computer he built then I’d be curious to see how he did it because nothing short of having the absolute best stuff today is going to cost that much.
That isn’t to say a console isn’t without advantages. Developing a game knowing everybody will be running the same exact hardware allows a game to be optimized for that particular set up. On a PC this can sometimes be game-breaking when people find that they have hardware that simply doesn’t agree with a games design which makes them wait for updates.
